TEN DAYS ON BROADWAY
Audio recordings hidden for 10 years have been recovered and turned into this ground breaking arts documentary podcast, TEN DAYS ON BROADWAY.
Originally recorded in 2018, Bradley McCaws took a whirlwind journey to New York City.
He went off in search of answers. What makes a great musical? Why are they so hard to make in places not called Broadway or the West End?
Inspired by the new series MAKING WORRIED MINDS, these original recordings have been developed into a three act, 24 episode series.
Weaving together McCaw’s journey as he searches NYC for expert interviews speaking with leading writers, directors, Producers, Tony Award winners and people on the street! With interviews from Adam Guettel, John Bucchino, Playbill, Sardi’s Restaurant and many many more. For internationals, it takes them to a place most can only dream of visiting, and for locals and traditionalists, it brings a new history to a story as old as the form itself.
With Broadway's 2017 box office surpassing $1.5 billion for the first time (Hollywood Reporter) and Award-winning film phenomena like Frozen, Greatest Showman, and La La Land - the world is rushing to seats around the globe to raise it's jazz hands and sing 'How do we solve a problem like Maria!?’ Yet at a closer glance only 5% of the shows created are responsible for the high grossing revenue - the remainder close early, out of town or in the case for most original musicals in Australia, wander aimlessly through the Outback desert waiting to be discovered. The early composers almost single-handedly opened the door for tin pan alley and the evolution of popular music. It’s responsible for giving us household names like Bette. Audra. Patti. Mandy. Sondheim. Lloyd-Webber. What can artists do today to find similar success and how has the industry changed? In this exploration of The Great American Art Form, BRADLEY MCCAW (Award-winning writer/performer/ lecturer) travels to New York City to ask Industry greats first hand - what does it actually take to make a great musical.
